ABU DHABI, 25th November, 2022 (WAM) — Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi recently celebrated the graduation of its 13th class at a ceremony attended by Minister of State for International Cooperation and Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi Board Chair Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy.
The graduation ceremony was attended by Professor Nathalie Drach-Temam, President of the University and Vice Chair of the Board of Sorbonne Abu Dhabi.
With Emirati graduates accounting for 54% of the class of 2022, the 13th cohort had 233 graduates, including 145 undergraduate, 73 master’s and 15 graduate degrees.
This celebration also marks the completion of the first class of Document Management and Archival Sciences License students with 35 graduates.
The graduates came from the following subject areas: Romance Studies, Applied Foreign Languages, Geography and Planning, History, Archeology and Art History, Law, Economics and Management, Philosophy and Sociology, Natural and Engineering Sciences and Sports.
During her graduation speech, Ms. Al Hashemy congratulated the Class of 2022 students and expressed her appreciation for their achievements. She also praised the diversity of the class and noted that it embodies the university’s motto, “A Bridge Between Cultures.”
Speaking of the graduates, Ms Al Hashemy said: “Adaptability is of course another part of the UAE’s DNA. Like you, this nation is flexible and forward-thinking, young but not as young as it is, and in its own unique defense of empathy, understanding and collaboration. It’s evident in the way we’ve built a world-class education system, that leaves no one behind, powered by the relentless adoption of technology, backed by gender parity and inclusion, and fueled by unprecedented creativity and innovation.
“This is evident in the jobs awaiting our graduates here in the UAE, new opportunities in established or emerging sectors that only reinforce our thriving reputation as a preferred talent destination and talent source for tomorrow.”
For her part, Professor Drach-Temam expressed her pride in the graduates and commended the efforts of the faculty, administration and various departments for their contribution to the success of students and graduates.
She also stated that these efforts are a true testament to the university’s mission to provide excellence in French-language education to produce global leaders and thinkers, and to promote dialogue and harmony between cultures and civilizations.
She added: “There are around 65 different nationalities at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and this diversity makes life on our campus extremely rich and stimulating. Our students have not only acquired academic knowledge, but also learned what multiculturalism means and how to make the most of it; they have gained openness and knowledge of the world.”
After the speeches, Mr. Al Hashemy was joined by Professor Nathalie Drach-Temam, as well as Professor Silvia Serrano, Vice Chancellor of the Sorbonne, Professor Philipe Didier, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Management, and Dr. Laurence Renault, Deputy, to Vice-Chancellor for Education, for the graduation ceremony.
Board members, industry partners, dignitaries, graduate families and faculty members attended the ceremony, which was held at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.
