From December 7th to 9th, immerse yourself in the world of the American composer, conductor and pianist John Williams thanks to an international symposium!

At the initiative of teacher-researchers Chloé Huvet and Grégoire Tosser, this is the first scientific event dedicated to the composer John Williams. 32 participants from different disciplines from all over the world are expected. The opportunity to look back on a prolific and rich production that covers several important periods in the history of cinema, and this at times of significant changes in audiovisual technologies.

Primarily associated with the spectacular, the wondrous, sci-fi and the major film franchises, John Williams has subscribed to some of cinema’s most iconic themes: the disturbing motif of the shark in Jaws, the flying bikes of ET the Extra-Terrestrial, the heroic Theme of Indiana Jones, the magical waltz of the owl Hedwig in Harry Potter and his most famous work: the emblematic music of the Star Wars saga.

And to continue the adventure, two exhibitions based on the Star Wars saga and concerts will be offered.


“Star Wars: Before and After”
From December 7th to 16th
A return in posters to the Star Wars universe and the inspirations of its creator George Lucas. Discover strange similarities between swords and lightsabers, clothes and helmets for space battles in the distant future in all these great themes.

Exhibition conceived and produced by the Institut Jean Vigo.
Place of exhibition: the lobby of the Maupertuis building – 3 rue du Père Jarlan

“From One Galaxy to Another” by photographer Gilles Capelle.
From December 7th to 16th

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… Did you know that the Star Wars movies were filmed in Tunisia? The exhibition invites you to follow in the footsteps of the iconic filming locations of the saga in order to (re)discover these landscapes that have occupied an important place in our imagination.

Attend a tribute concert to John Williams with the Star Pop Orchestra conducted by Christophe Eliot and the Grand Choir of Évry University students conducted by Julien Buis.

Friday, December 9 at 7:15 p.m
Take a seat in the Cathedral of the Resurrection, the work of architect Mario Botta, for a piano recital by Sylvain Morizet (arranger, composer and orchestrator), accompanied by Cédric Laroque (violinist), Jérémy Bourré (cellist) and Stéphane Cros (saxophonist).
