Mining sector: Two Endeavor Mining staff among the many 100 inspiring girls

November 22: Abidjan, Ivory Coast – Endeavor Mining is proud to announce that two of its employees, Laetitia Gadegbeku-Ouattara and Maimouna Guembre, have been included in the World’s Inspiring 100 Women in Mining (WIM100) as selected by Women in Mining UK became.

Women in Mining UK is an advocacy group for women in mining, aiming to promote the employment, retention and promotion of women in the industry. For this fifth edition, WIM100 highlights the diversity of talent in the mining sector and recognizes inspiring women with a rich history, regardless of their role or hierarchical level. The 100 featured women were chosen for their inspiring contributions to a stronger, safer and more sustainable mining industry.

Laetitia Gadegbeku-Ouattara is Country Manager for Côte d’Ivoire, mainly responsible for liaising with government agencies and national stakeholders and managing the files for the acquisition of mining permits and permits while also negotiating mining agreements. Laetitia is also a sponsor of the women’s association AFEMI at the Endeavor d’Ity mine and she mentors women working in the industry to ensure a strong pool of future leaders.

Maimouna Guembre, mine closure specialist at Endeavour, based in Burkina Faso, was one of the country’s first women metalworkers. She is also Vice President of AFEMIB, the mining association in Burkina Faso. She works closely with her colleagues at both Endeavor and the mining industry to encourage the inclusion of more women.

Endeavor Mining is committed to creating an inclusive workplace and promoting gender diversity, with a focus on increasing the representation of women within the company. In 2021, 9% of employees were women and significant efforts are being made to further increase this number. At the senior level, 14% of the members of Endeavor’s Executive Management Committee are women and 24% of the direct report members of the Executive Management Committee are women.

Endeavor Mining Group is a signatory to the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles and guides the Women in Mining groups in all their activities, which fall under the group-wide women’s networking group EDV Women. EDV Femmes was founded in 2021 to help women build and strengthen their own networks within the company and to provide a platform of support.

The 100 Global Inspiring Women in Mining

Launched in 2013 by Women in Mining UK, the biannual 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining (WIM100), now in its fifth edition, highlights the incredible diversity of mining talent and celebrates inspiring women and their stories. This edition of the WIM100 is generously sponsored by BMO Capital Markets, Heidrick & Struggles and BCG (Boston Consulting Group).

In 2022, WIM UK received 915 nominations for 491 women in mining from 61 countries. Those featured in the book were chosen for their inspirational deeds. This includes being a pioneer and making more positive and impactful changes to enable the industry to operate in a safer, more sustainable and inclusive manner; a commitment to defend and empower those who work in the mining industry and beyond; and perseverance in the face of adversity.
