Choosing to change the future now, without waiting for what comes tomorrow. Driven by its avant-garde spirit, the Université de Sherbrooke has decided to make this visionary commitment the subject of its major fundraising campaign 2022-2028. Launched internally on November 16th, the most ambitious campaign in the history of the UdeS resulted in convivial and inspiring moments, as did its community, which gathered in large numbers at the cultural center to support the family in the next chapter of its development.
With the internal launch, a step inseparable from the success of the Grand Campaign, the table is now set and the colors are familiar: raise $250 million over the next six years. When the challenge is daunting, it rises to the fair measure of the great human and unified university that will be able to take it up. In recent years, his great generosity has resulted in many great achievements for the benefit of the students, the future eco-citizens of tomorrow. The UdeS community alone managed to raise the impressive sum of 26 million US dollars in the last major fundraiser.
Bold campaign, bold program
A mobilized community sends out a powerful signal: that of people doing whatever it takes to fulfill their philanthropic aspirations and acting as real drivers of change. It therefore made sense to rely on a colorful internal launch to promote the mobilization and commitment of the university community around the Great Campaign 2022-2028.
Like an inspiring Ted Talk, this evening was masterfully executed by Claude Villeneuve, Director at the School of Management, donor and internal volunteer for the Grand Campaign, and Evelyne Mottais, PhD student at the Faculty of Education. . From the beginning they told their story and the path that naturally led them to the Université de Sherbrooke. An adventure that was not often easy, but certainly touched the hearts of the public, consisting of the student community and the UdeS staff.
As a nod to the famous “My thesis in 180 seconds” competition, the deans and deans as well as the representatives of Vert & Or and Arts and Culture presented their program of action.
The enthusiastic audience was thus able to discover the mobilizing projects presented during the Great Campaign, as well as the overall involvement and mobilization of the faculties responsible for the campaign in their community. Focusing on the big contemporary issues that UdeS applies its expertise to – the fight against climate change, coexistence and diversity, personalized healthcare and services, technological transformations at the service of humanity – these inspiring projects did not focus on the student experience do not arouse the pride of the entire UdeS family.
Think big to meet the big challenges of the day
Professor Pierre Cossette, Rector of the UdeS, took the floor to outline the objectives of this major campaign before recalling its importance for the institution. In line with the philanthropic claim of the UdeS, the projects funded by the Great Action 2022-2028 aim at concrete solutions that the university would like to offer for the challenges of today and tomorrow:
At Université de Sherbrooke, we are not afraid to think big and choose to change the future. Our great campaign, the most ambitious in our history, directly supports the next chapter of our development, responding to the great challenges of the moment, always with that visionary spirit that shapes our mission and our values.
Professor Pierre Cossette, Rector
Vincent Joli-Coeur, Chairman of the Board of Directors of La Fondation de l’UdeS, also addressed a few words to express his strong attachment to the institution, identifying concrete achievements of the UdeS that make it a reality drivers of change:
Courageous, innovative and visionary, that’s how I see UdeS. The major awards of recent years also testify to this, be it in sustainable development with STARS and GreenMetric, and of course the Maclean’s ranking, which distinguishes the UdeS as the most respected university for its students in Canada.
Vincent Joli-Coeur, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fondation de l’UdeS
With its Great Campaign, the University of Sherbrooke aims to drive change with impact, impact and sustainability so that it and society can meet the biggest challenges of today and tomorrow. And if you believe the bursts of applause and proud smiles that result from the presentation of the projects during the internal launch, it goes without saying that the mobilization of our community around the Grand Campaign 2022-2028 promises to be extremely promising.
