Tribute to our beneficial fellow colleagues – Information – Université de Sherbrooke


It is a pleasure to be with colleagues who inspire us every day through their creativity, generosity and commitment. And on the scale of the great human university that is the UdeS, these precious people are numerous! At the unveiling of the Inspiration Awards, it was highlighted that five staff members and one work team received a lively tribute from their peers and the institution on November 21st.

At the level of the honorees, a colorful ceremony, interrupted by solid musical performances by students of the University of Music and choristers of the campus choir, delighted the large audience. Professor Patrik Doucet, Vice Rector for Human Resources, masterfully moderated the event, flanked by UdeS Rector Professor Pierre Cossette.

For the sixth time, UdeS employees were invited to submit their professional favorites among those who put a lot of commitment and passion into their work. This great movement of recognition was far from over for the 2022 edition, but led to the submission of more than 230 entries, including twenty for the Inspirational Team Award. Since the founding of this unifying initiative, around 1,500 applications have been submitted to the selection committee.

A total of five individual prizes and one team prize were awarded in five different categories. Due to the quality of the numerous files submitted, two winners were honored in the Initiative Innovation category.

Embodying the values ​​of mutual aid, solidarity, inclusion and openness, Claude Villeneuve inspires and mobilizes those around him through his extraordinary commitment. For nearly 10 years, as the manager of the annual fundraiser for the School of Management for Centraide, he has used his imagination to inspire the generous spirits of his colleagues. Already heavily invested and committed, Claude multiplies the voluntary commitment. In 2021, while recovering from a personal ordeal, he created a grant to highlight students’ commitment to sexual and gender diversity inclusion, which also pays tribute to her husband, Alain Harvey.

Her sense of initiative led Chantal Brien to review the organization of the premises and resources of the laboratory of the Cement and Concrete Research Group at the Faculty of Engineering. Thanks to a rigorous continuous improvement process, the initiatives she implemented not only allowed her team to gain efficiency, but also stimulated them to multiply optimization projects and best practices. These bonuses not only inspire pride and belonging, but also have a positive impact on the quality of life at work and the well-being of all team members.

A dedicated nurse, Mélanie Rodrigue is driven by a desire to always do better and achieve more. Recently arrived at UdeS, she invests herself in her work in an exemplary and positive way, proposing innovative solutions in response to various problems. To prevent GHB-related intoxication situations, Mélanie did not hesitate to push her thoughts and actions beyond consultations and clinical follow-up. Thanks to his initiative and dedication, cards were produced and distributed around campus this fall that detect the presence of GHB, helping to improve safety in social activities.

“Operations guru”, “Lucky Luke who answers faster than his shadow”: there are many colorful expressions within the Department of Internships and Professional Development (SSDP) to describe the professionalism of Jean-François Dubois. A veritable encyclopedia of knowledge and references, this pillar of the SSDP offers constant support to its peers. This quality of service is reflected in the productivity of the employees, who can quickly solve any problems that arise. Jean-François is always in “solution mode” and a team player for whom mutual aid and the human dimension are at the heart of what he does.

Nathalie Dubé is the perfect example of a humble and approachable person who works in the shadows but whose light shines on an entire department. In addition to brilliantly executing her work, she is mindful of her environment and concerned about the well-being of those around her. She cultivates authentic and rich relationships with others, takes the time to think of people and multiplies the small touches, for example to mark important events. Reliable and engaging, she welcomes all viewpoints with an open mind, and the confidence she inspires inspires positive feelings for everyone who has the privilege of knowing her.

Assisting in the preparation of disinfectant gel, setting up the COVID-19 Assistance Center, coordinating hundreds of requests related to health management… the Department of Health and Safety at Work and Study Environment (SSMTE) was much needed during a pandemic. With heart, diligence and rigor, this close-knit team has invested to provide a safe study and work environment for the entire university community. Thanks to their diverse areas of expertise, sustained commitment and great adaptability, the members of this team are able to meet the diverse health and safety needs of our campus on a daily basis.

Congratulations to all these inspiring, mobilized and committed people who help enrich the great mosaic of talent that is the pride of UdeS!

The Inspiration Awards were created in 2017 to highlight UdeS employees who excel through their professional or volunteer activities.
